Marshall, Gerstein & Borun LLP is pleased to announce that its Patent Litigation, IP Transactions, and Patent Prosecution practices have received top national rankings in Intellectual Asset Management (IAM) magazine’s 2015 edition of the IAM Patent 1000 – The World's Leading Patent Practitioners, which identifies top patent firms and practitioners in key jurisdictions around the globe. The firm was ranked as highly recommended for IP transactions and prosecution and recommended for litigation. The guide describes the firm as “The most complete patent team in Chicago,” that “in terms of critical thinking, scientific capability, and unwavering commitment to quality… is the best around.” Additionally, ten of the firm’s partners were selected for inclusion as "top patent practitioners" and recognized individually in the guide.

According to IAM, the firm’s IP Litigation department is a practice for which "teamwork is a real strength,” with "a body of professionals who communicate clearly with one another.” IP Litigation partners Kevin Flowers, Ph.D., Mark Izraelewicz and Kevin Hogg are recommended.

Kevin M. Flowers “is an ace up the sleeve for IP Litigation. His background as a research scientist and teacher has given him all the right tools to win trials," while Mark H. Izraelewicz “has a particular flair for avoiding lengthy and costly court cases by hammering out favorable settlements for clients.” Kevin D. Hogg “brings comfort to innovators when trouble brews. He is a particular favorite of Procter & Gamble.”

IAM notes that “one of only three firms to be highly recommended for patent transactions, [Marshall, Gerstein & Borun]’s licensing practice, for many, is its pièce de résistance." Pamela Cox, Partner and Chair of IP Transactions, is highly recommended for transactions. Partner Robert Gerstein is recommended.

Pamela L. Cox is "one of the country’s leading licensing authorities. Her advice is clear, thorough, insightful, and easy to understand. She quickly comes to your rescue with practical guidance in very tight timeframes and is an indispensable ongoing resource who can navigate worldwide negotiations with ease." Robert M. Gerstein is "a veteran deal broker who dispenses tailored, business-oriented solutions to all manner of clients."

IAM describes the Firm’s Patent Prosecution practice as a group that "mines a rich seam of success in the life sciences." Partners Katherine Neville, Ph.D., Michael Muczynski, Michael Furmanek, and Jeffrey Sharp are recommended for prosecution.

Katherine Neville, Ph.D. "secure[s] cast-iron protection for universities, startups, and Fortune 500s alike. With a great deal of grace, Dr. Neville deliver[s] advice about incredibly complex subject matter in a way that makes it look easy." Jeffrey Sharp and Michael Muczynski "also have their finger on the [life science] industry’s pulse." In the mechanical engineering realm, Michael Furmanek "is a proactive attorney with a solid grasp of clients’ technology."

The IAM Patent 1000 lists top litigators, licensing advisors and patent prosecutors, based on interviews with more than 1,500 attorneys and in-house counsel across the world. Individuals qualify for a listing when they receive sufficient positive feedback from peers and clients with knowledge of their practice and the market within which they operate. According to IAM, "only those individuals identified by market sources for their exceptional skill sets and profound insights into patent matters feature in the IAM Patent 1000."
