GE Global IP Conference

On June 27, 2008, MGB Partner, Brad Lyerla, addressed a plenary session of the GE Global IP Conference in Orlando, Florida. Mr. Lyerla discussed the "Eleven Lessons Learned in Trade Secrets Trials." The hour-long talk featured stories from eleven trade secrets cases Mr. Lyerla has tried, including such well-known trials as Motorola v. US Robotics, Business Records Corporation v. Lueth and Pepsico v. Redmond, among others. Mr. Lyerla's real-life stories illustrate things that can go wrong when: the client restricts the lawyer from deposing customers, a defendant responds to a motion for temporary restraining order before fully investigating the facts, the plaintiff chooses the wrong venue, a party fails to lay the foundation in discovery for key trial exhibits, and other common errors made by trial lawyers handling trade secrets litigation.
