April 7, 2010

Two partners from Marshall, Gerstein & Borun have been named "Illinois Rising Stars" by Super Lawyers, a listing of outstanding lawyers selected by their peers for a high degree of professional achievement. John Labbéand Michael Muczynski are recognized as two of the top up-and-coming attorneys in intellectual property law in Illinois who are 40 years old or younger or who have been practicing for 10 years or less.

Labbé is a trial lawyer focused on patent litigation. His recent patent cases encompass a broad range of technologies for clients in the fields of biotechnology, energy, power distribution, and cable television. He works with clients to develop efficient solutions to the challenges of litigation, representing clients in state and federal courts across the country. Labbé graduated cum laude from Northwestern University School of Law in 2002 and graduated from Northwestern University in 1998 with a degree in biological sciences.

Muczynski's practice includes strategic patent portfolio management as well as preparing patent applications, domestic and foreign patent prosecution, and validity and infringement opinions. A substantial part of his practice involves counseling clients on strategic decisions for patenting of inventions relating to pharmaceutical products in view of FDA regulations, related exclusivity provisions, and the competitive landscape. He graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in chemical engineering in 1993, and earned his law degree in 1997 from the University of Michigan Law School. This is the third year Muczynski has been named an "Illinois Rising Star."
