MGB Partner, Paul C. Craane, recently contributed an article that was published in the October 2009 issue of Biomass Magazine. In “Navigating the Intellectual Property Maze,” Mr. Craane takes the reader through a decision matrix illustrating various situations where traditional patent protection may not be the only choice, or the best choice. “At some point, one must decide whether to disclose and seek patent protection or to limit disclosure and seek trade secret protection. Fortunately, the nature of the [company's] product and the company's business plan may provide guidance as to whether patent or trade secret protection is a better choice.” A copy of the article can be found below.
