Cox, Gerstein, and Watson to Speak at AUTM 2017 Annual Meeting

The Marshall, Gerstein & Borun LLP Non-Profit Technology Transfer Group is providing thought-leadership at the Association of University Technology Managers (AUTM) 2017 Annual Meeting. As recognized authorities in IP transactions law, we are frequently invited to speak on technology transfer practices and procedures, and to serve as adjunct professors.

  • March 13 – Are You Wasting Too Much Time on Non-license Agreements?
    Julie Watson and co-panelists will address standard terms and templates and negotiation strategies for inter-institutional agreements and non-disclosure agreements to reduce transaction time. Ms. Watson will be joined by Hannah Dvorak Carbone, California Institute of Technology (Caltech), Scot G. Hamilton, Columbia University, and Jonathan Jensen, Indigo Agriculture.
     
  • March 14 – The Diminishing Returns of Venture Philanthropy
    Robert Gerstein and co-panelists will discuss the funding of research by philanthropic organizations, which has increased due to the decline in federal grant dollars. The purpose of this session is to explore the perspectives of funding organizations, the technology transfer office, and the faculty. Mr. Gerstein will be joined by Daniel J. Catron, Jim O’Connell and Claes Wahlestedt of the University of Miami, and Catherine Wendelken of Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
     
  • March 14 – Intellectual Property Dispute Settlement in Life Sciences
    Pamela Cox and international co-panelists will compare and contrast cost, time, and enforceability in resolving disputes in the life sciences through litigation, mediation and arbitration with an emphasis on WIPO Mediation and Arbitration Rules. Ms. Cox will be joined by Adam Rattray, WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Center, Robin Rasor, Duke University, and John Calkins, Northwestern University.
     
  • March 15 – Communication Skills for Licensing Professionals
    Julie Watson will moderate this session and discuss the role communication plays in the world of academic technology transfer and corporate business development, the importance of effective and active listening and common personality types faced by licensing professionals. Ms. Watson will be joined by Linara Axanova of the University of Pennsylvania, John Christie of Tulane University, and Leef Smith Barnes, chief communications officer for AUTM.
