ICANN’s New Domain Name Program Has Made Brand Protection More Expensive. MGB Can Help.

ICANN, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, will soon reveal the new generic top level domain names (new gTLDs) which have been applied for, and Marshall, Gerstein & Borun LLP is offering a free review of that list for new domain names that are identical or similar to clients’ trademarks, names, or generic terms.

The application period for new gTLD registries is scheduled to close on April 20, 2012 and ICANN has announced that it will publish the list of all the proposed new top level domains and the names of their applicants on April 30, 2012.

To assist existing and new clients deal with the introduction of these new domains, Marshall Gerstein & Borun LLP is offering a free review service. Companies, organizations and individuals may request that we review the list of new gTLDs as soon as it is published and notify them of any new gTLD that is identical to up to 10 of their trademarks or sensitive terms without charge. Additional marks or terms may be added, or the review broadened to include confusingly similar names for a nominal fee.

If identical or confusingly similar new gTLDs are identified, we are prepared to assist clients challenge them through comments or formal objections, or provide advice about how to otherwise best protect their rights with respect to these new domain names.
