Biography
Elaine is a trusted advisor for chemical innovation with more than two decades of legal experience. Elaine’s practice focuses on patent preparation and prosecution for the international patent portfolios of corporations, startups and universities in technology areas including semiconductor processing chemistry, electrochemistry and polymer chemistry. She has extensive expertise in helping pharmaceutical and specialty chemical companies win global patent protection for their inventions.
Representative Experience
- Managing global patent and trademark portfolios, including patent applications in the US and numerous foreign countries.
- Patent prosecution and counselling on IP-related matters for Fortune 500 domestic and international clients in chemical and pharmaceutical industries.
- Preparing patent landscape analyses and providing guidance on securing pharmaceutical patent protection.
- Reviewing, drafting, and negotiating contracts, including confidentiality, IP licensing, joint development, promotions, clinical studies, master service, and manufacturing agreements.
Background and Credentials
Elaine received her JD from the Chicago-Kent College of Law/Illinois Tech where she was a recipient of the esteemed Order of the Coif, a member of Law Review and a Chicago-Kent Legal Scholar. She obtained her Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry at Texas A&M University under the guidance of Nobel Laureate Sir Derek H. R. Barton. Her thesis research focused on free radical reactions of organotellurium compounds.
