Jeremy D. Protas joined Marshall, Gerstein & Borun as a summer associate in 2003 and 2004, before joining the firm as an associate in 2005. He is involved with both patent prosecution and litigation.
His technical experience comprises:
- Optical devices (including optical switches, attenuators, AWGs, cross-connects, couplers and sensors)
- Semiconductor devices and device fabrication
- Cellular telephone components and modules
- Land- and satellite-based wireless communication systems
- Various mechanical devices, sensors, supports and actuators
- GSM/CDMA technology
- Process control systems
- Energy usage and power quality monitoring/reporting
Mr. Protas received his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Case Western Reserve University in 2000. While working on his degree, he interned at Jet Propulsion Laboratory, where he participated in redesigning, developing and implementing S-band and X-band transmitters in NASA’s Deep Space Network and researched development of an expert system to detect, diagnose and predict transmitter failures.
Prior to law school, Mr. Protas worked for Motorola, in Arlington Heights, Illinois. During his tenure at Motorola, he contributed to the design, test, and implementation of GSM cellular infrastructure platforms, focusing on improving electrical signal integrity and product reliability through comprehensive simulation.
Mr. Protas received his J.D. from DePaul University College of Law in 2005. He is admitted to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
In 2009, Mr. Protas founded the Jeremy D. Protas LGBT Patent Law Scholarship. The scholarship aims to raise awareness of patent law among lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender law students, in furtherance of the goal of increasing the number of LGBT lawyers in the patent law community.
