John B. Lungmus
Of Counsel

John B. Lungmus became Of Counsel to Marshall, Gerstein & Borun in 2001 after many years as a principal partner in the intellectual property law firm of Tilton, Fallon, Lungmus & Chestnut. He is a specialist in chemical and mechanical patent prosecution, both domestic and foreign, and has extensive experience in conducting and directing infringement investigations and in providing guidance and opinions in such matters. He has already participated in domestic and foreign patent and trademark litigation and in patent oppositions and appeals.

Mr. Lungmus has been involved in counseling clients, from individuals to large corporations, in virtually all aspects of patent, trademark and copyright practice. With a technical background in both biology and chemistry, he has particular interests and expertise in intellectual property areas involving medical technology, including medical and dental devices, instrumentation, prosthetics, therapy and pharmaceuticals.

Mr. Lungmus is a member of the Illinois Bar and of various legal organizations including the Intellectual Property law Association of Chicago, the American Intellectual Property Law Association, and the American Bar Association.

Mr. Lungmus received his J.D. degree from Northwestern University School of Law in 1954 and received his B.S. degree in Chemistry from Northwestern  University in 1951. In 1971, Mr. Lungmus was invited to develop and conduct a course in intellectual property law, particularly copyright law, at Northwestern University School of Law and he served there as instructor/lecturer from 1971 through 1979.
