Owners and companies who register their trademarks and domain names are doing the right thing: protecting themselves. However, that safeguard alone is not fool-proof. There has been a rising number of trademark and domain name scams, dishonest companies and individuals trying to trick trademark owners into purchasing sham registrations and charging unnecessary fees for domain names.

In the December 2010 issue of IPToday, Michael R. Graham, a partner with Marshall, Gerstein & Borun discusses how to recognize bogus solicitations from organizations and registries in his article, "The Growing Problem of Trademark Registration and Domain Name Scams."

Marshall, Gerstein & Borun ranks among the "World’s Leading Intellectual Property Practices" for trademarks according to Managing IP's 2010 World IP Survey.
