US Patent Reform

August 23, 2011

The national news media continues to cover how patent reform bills in Congress can jump-start more innovation in the United States and help create jobs.

Partner Robert M. Gerstein of Marshall, Gerstein and Borun LLP discusses new patent laws that could change the landscape of invention and innovation in the U.S. in an interview on a nationally syndicated television program, 'First Business.'

In the video, Mr. Gerstein talks about how the change from a “First to Invent” to “First to File” system will bring the US in-line with the rest of the world’s patent systems and create a more streamlined and less costly process.

Patent reform, if passed, would also bring a greater measure of financial independence to the USPTO, hopefully leading to more investment in technology and the ability to hire more patent examiners to reduce the backlog of patent applications.

With over 20 years of experience, Robert M. Gerstein counsels clients operating in a wide range of industries on all aspects of intellectual property, negotiates patent and trademark agreements and provides legal opinions.
