“How I Made Law Firm Leadership: ‘Develop Client Service Skills That Set You Apart,’ Says Randall Rueth of Marshall Gerstein”
September 25, 2024Marshall Gerstein Partner and Chair of our Electrical and Computer Technologies Practice Randy Rueth was profiled in Law.com’s How I Made Law Firm Leadership series following his appointment to the firm’s Executive Committee earlier this year. In the Q&A, Randy shares his background and pathway to partnership, as well as his advice to younger attorneys with leadership ambitions.
“First and foremost, focus on improving your skills and being the best attorney you can be,” Randy suggests to up-and-comers. “Develop client service skills that set you apart. These are foundational, and opportunities for leadership and management will come in time.”
Randy also pointed to the strengths of our Electrical and Computer Technologies Practice that will benefit other teams in the firm: “[We have] long been at the forefront of using technology to improve the quality of our work product and increase efficiencies. It’s the nature of our clients’ work and what we do for them to be forward-thinking and innovating, applying the latest technology to improve. For example, in our patent prosecution work and drafting and negotiating with examiners, we have software tools that we have used for many years to elevate our work. Currently, we are working to be ahead of the curve in incorporating artificial intelligence and machine learning. We are using existing AI and other tools and developing our own. As legal practitioners, we are seeing a transformation in what tools can provide for our clients and how it will positively allow for more creativity on the part of our attorneys.”
