“Reuters Win in AI Training Lawsuit Gives Guidance on New Era of ‘Fair Use,’ Attorneys Say”

In a Law.com article about a recent and significant AI copyright ruling out of federal court, Marshall Gerstein Partner Matt Carey is quoted about the impact of Reuters’ win in the first-of-its-kind lawsuit involving content developed with artificial intelligence.

“‘Perhaps if one day these models don’t have as much of a black box,’ and allow for more insight into how they read a text prompt, and for ‘humans to control the output via the prompts a little bit more than they are now,’ it could potentially ‘tilt the scales more towards registrants [not having to] disclaim as much as they have now,’” Matt told the publication in an interview.
