In an August 2 article published in WIRED, Marshall Gerstein, partner and chair of our Design Patents practice, Jeremy Kriegel, discusses the latest technologies that create flashy automobile headlights. While vehicle lights are primarily intended for safety, car designers are getting creative to make their brands stand out.

“Distinctive headlight shapes can even be protected by design patents,” Jeremy told WIRED in an interview. In recent years, he points out that automakers have spent the most time and money defending design patents from aftermarket parts manufacturers, not other designers. You can read more about the trend and how automakers are innovating to improve both safety and design in WIRED, available here.
