Marshall, Gerstein & Borun LLP is pleased to announce that three of the firm’s attorneys have been recognized by Crain’s Chicago Business as “Notable Women in Law.” Partners Jennifer Burnette, Meggan Duffy, and Julianne Hartzell were included in this year’s annual listing of the Chicago area’s top women lawyers. The guide spotlights honorees for their professional and community successes and accomplishments over the last 18 months.

Jennifer Burnette, chair of the firm’s chemical sciences practice and the firm’s finance committee, was recognized for her breadth and depth of technological experience and the tremendous business partnerships she has recently cultivated. She is a leader in the firm’s mentorship program, providing valuable insight into work/life balance skills for colleagues who are new parents. She serves on the women’s board of the Adler Planetarium and has completed significant pro bono guardianship work with Chicago Volunteer Legal Services.

Meggan Duffy was lauded for securing new clients and growing the work of current ones, notably acquiring a foreign client after leading a lengthy RFP process. In the last year, the firm handled over 20 cases for the client. She is an integral part of the firm receiving the Midsize Mansfield Rule Certification Plus, the industry standard for diverse representation in leadership roles, client pitches, and staffing. She is an active member of the firm’s Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) committee and a founding member and board director of the Illinois IP Alliance.

Julianne Hartzell is chair of Marshall Gerstein’s medical devices practice and is a founding member of the firm’s DEI committee. She is noted for advising an internationally renowned, industry-leading German company entangled in its first U.S. litigation, as well as a victory at the Federal Circuit that resulted in resolution of the appealed patent inter partes review and related district court litigation. She is on the board of Lawyers for the Creative Arts and is a member of the Chicago Council for the American Writers Museum.

Honorees for Crain's Chicago Business' "Notable Women in Law" are chosen based on several criteria, including time spent practicing law; impact on the firm’s business, client cases and pro bono work; abilities as a mentor or role model; and leadership in professional and civic organizations.
