Marshall Gerstein Welcomed Non-Profit 2nd Story to the Firm to Honor Veterans and Celebrate Inclusion
As part of our appreciation to those who have served and for those who fight for what is just, Marshall, Gerstein & Borun LLP proudly partnered with Chicago-based non-profit 2nd Story to present the program “The Things We Fight For” to our professionals, administrative leaders, and staff on Thursday, November 14, 2019. Members of Marshall Gerstein’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee, Associate Kate Nuehring Su and Technical Specialist Michael Silver, Ph.D., organized this powerful and insightful event for the firm.
LaTanya Lane, Manager of Artistic Partnerships at 2nd Story served as moderator for the program and introduced the program’s two presenters, Dave Wagener and Kim Hunt.
The first story, presented by Dave Wagener, detailed his experience being deployed in Afghanistan and showed how cultural barriers can be overcome through kindness and storytelling, even when no one speaks the same language.
The second story, presented by Kim Hunt, detailed racial barriers which existed during her childhood (and persist to this day) and the lengths to which her mother went to fight for her family.
In addition to bringing the firm together to hear the stories, 2nd Story provided time for the firm to reflect and engage with each other. This format allowed for appreciation, discussion, and recognition of our veterans and the many others who fight injustice throughout our society.
2nd Story
The mission of 2nd Story is to create spaces where people can share, listen to, and reflect upon one another’s stories. Marshall Gerstein appreciates the opportunity to partner with such a great organization, and one that strives to foster a better understanding of our world.
