‘Maybe I Could Do This’: AmLaw 500 Partner to Appear on Jeopardy!

In a profile published by Law.com in advance of her November 26th appearance on the popular game show, Marshall Gerstein Partner Shannon Mastick Hughes Mastick discusses her journey as a contestant on Jeopardy! After a five-year audition process, Shannon finally received a call she calls a “dream come true.”

Shannon’s love for quiz games began in high school, on her math team and scholastic bowl. She also credits her law degree with the skills needed to be successful. She told Law.com in an interview, “There are whole categories on ‘Jeopardy!’ that are about court cases, laws and Latin terms, so there's a lot of stuff you just know from going to law school and practicing law, so it helped in that way … and then just the usual academic stuff. It's like studying for a test, so the better you are at that, there’s probably some correlation with being able to recall random trivia facts.”

Shannon said the energy on the set and backstage reminded her of her high school track days, with lots of “fun anxiety” flying around. “It’s honestly really fun to watch Jeopardy! With a bunch of other people who are really into it. And they’re also interesting, unique people.”
