Racism and Hate Have No Place in our Community
Marshall Gerstein is troubled and saddened by the recent shootings in Atlanta, and the ever- escalating verbal abuse, harassment, and violence targeting Asian communities in the United States. Nearly 3,800 incidents of hate, discrimination or attacks on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders were reported from March 2020 through February 2021. This is certainly just a fraction of the total incidents that actually took place.
Anti-Asian racism is not new, and it is out of control. The hatred and nationalism that has been stoked by politicians and others looking for scapegoats is as deplorable as the violence that it creates. Viruses have no nationality. Racism and hate have no place in our community.
We stand with our Asian colleagues and friends here in Chicago, throughout the country and around the world to denounce this discrimination, hatred and violence. There are many good organizations working to help our Asian communities, and they can use your help. New York Magazine recently published a list of 61 Ways to Donate in Support of Asian Communities, and we hope that you can find a way to support one of these worthy organizations. Our firm will be making a donation and offering support to Asian Americans Advancing Justice through our diversity, equity and inclusion activities.
