MGB Attorneys Publish Commentary on Recent USPTO Training Materials
Marshall, Gerstein & Borun LLP attorneys David A. Gass and Sharon M. Sintich, Ph.D., have had an article, “Written Descriptions and Biotech Patents,” published in the Pharmaceutical Andrews Litigation Reporter, Vol. 24, Issue 7, September 2008, Thomson Reuters/West. The article reviews the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office’s recently revised “written description training materials” to be used by patent examiners, and provides commentary as to how such internal training materials will affect biotechnology patent protection.
Gass, a partner with the Firm, performs domestic and international patent prosecution and intellectual property counseling, with a particular emphasis in biotechnology, diagnostics, and therapeutics. His patent prosecution experience has included recombinant DNA, protein, and antibody technologies; genomics and proteomics; gene therapy, interfering RNA, and antisense technologies; anti-angiogenesis and cancer therapies; and genetically engineered plants. Gass received a J.D. from Boalt Hall School of Law, University of California at Berkeley, and a B.S. in cell and molecular biology from the University of Michigan, and has research experience in a plant genetics laboratory.
Sintich is an associate, also practicing in domestic and international biotechnology patent prosecution. Her patent prosecution experience has included recombinant DNA, protein and antibody technologies, recombinant growth factors, enzymes, chemokines, cell surface receptors, genetically engineered plants, diagnostics and vaccines. Sintich received a J.D. from the John Marshall Law School, a Ph.D. in tumor cell biology from Northwestern University, and a B.S. in biology from Bradley University.
