“How I Made Partner: ‘I Joined The Firm as Special Counsel and I Made It Clear From the Beginning That I Wanted to Make Partner,’ Says Conor Hunt of Marshall, Gerstein & Borun”
June 10, 2021On June 10, 2021, Law.com published an article as part of its “How I Made Partner” series highlighting Conor Hunt’s career success and his pathway to partnership at the firm.
Hunt was elected to Marshall Gerstein’s partnership in 2020, taking effect January 1, 2021. In the article, he explains what he believes to be the deciding point for the firm in making him partner, noting that “to make a lateral move at a senior level, you have to persuade the partners that you can practice with minimal oversight to be considered for hiring. I also made it clear from the beginning that I wanted to make partner, so the deciding point for me was just maintaining a high level of productivity to provide a track record for meeting the firm’s requirements for partner.”
When asked what his best piece of advice is for associates who also want to make partner, Hunt said, “You have to keep your clients happy, but as an associate, your clients include the partners in your firm. Everyone’s time is important, so ask questions early to establish expectations and provide the best possible work product the first time.”
