Associate Izabella Higson authored the paper “RNAi Technology Compatibility in the US and EU – Comparisons and Future Perspectives” in the UCLA Journal of Law & Technology, Winter 2023 edition. The paper discusses the differences in patent eligibility in the US and the EU, and how the resulting inconsistencies have specifically affected RNAi research and patents. RNAi-based research and technology is still in the early stages of its evolution. The paper also notes that the relative ease or difficulty of protecting RNAi intellectual property is likely to have a large effect on the growth of this new class of therapeutics.
