Marshall, Gerstein & Borun LLP Wins LMG Life Sciences Award
Marshall, Gerstein & Borun LLP is pleased to announce the Firm was honored at the second annual LMG Life Sciences Awards ceremony held September 17, 2014, in New York City. The celebration recognizes the very best life science practitioners and firms over the past 12 months from the United States, Canada and Europe. The Firm was awarded the following:
- Hatch Waxman Impact Case of the Year – Pfizer Inc. and Northwestern University v. Teva Pharms., et al. – Case team members: Kevin M. Flowers, Ph.D. and Mark H. Izraelewicz
Marshall Gerstein partners Kevin M. Flowers, Ph.D. and Mark H. Izraelewicz represented Northwestern University in a Hatch-Waxman suit against Teva Pharmaceuticals, in which seven generic drug companies sought to market generic versions of Lyrica®, a drug that has its origin in the research of a Northwestern University chemist. The Firm successfully represented Northwestern first in its claim that the patents covering the active ingredient in Lyrica® were valid, and again when the generic companies appealed the initial ruling.
The LMG Life Sciences award nominations are based on research and submissions undertaken by the editors of Euromoney’s 2014 LMG Life Sciences guide, which is aimed at providing attorneys and law firms with information on the legal market and the U.S. life sciences industry. Research for the entire publication was based on reviewing nearly 1,000 interviews and surveys completed by partners active in the market. In the 2013 LMG Life Sciences guide, Marshall, Gerstein & Borun was "highly recommended" for patent prosecution and "highly recommended" for patent strategy and management.
In 2014, Marshall Gerstein was shortlisted in 10 categories for the LMG Life Sciences Awards. Additionally, managing partner Jeffrey S. Sharp and partners Pamela L. Cox, David A. Gass, and Michael Muczynski were named as 2014 Life Sciences Stars, consistently recommended as reputable and effective attorneys servicing the industry.
