Special Counsel Matthew Jorge Receives Inaugural Champions for Diversity Award

Marshall, Gerstein & Borun LLP is proud to announce that Special Counsel Matthew Jorge is the inaugural recipient of the firm’s Champions for Diversity Award. This recognition aims to honor a legal professional at Marshall Gerstein who has demonstrated exceptional dedication to advancing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives. Matt is recognized by his peers for his outstanding commitment to DEI. Matt donates his time to a variety of organizations, many of which focus on mentoring and leadership for children and young adults. His DEI involvement and efforts include:

  • Co-Chair of the JD Mentors Program for the Hispanic Lawyers Association of Illinois – a collegial network with the goal of maximizing the number of Hispanics applying to law schools and cultivating the academic and professional success of those students.
  • Vice President of the Chicago Educational Foundation for the Intellectual Property Law Association of Chicago – a foundation that awards scholarships to Chicago Public School high school students that plan to study engineering, science, or pre-law in college.
  • Mentor in the Patent Pathways – a nonprofit organization running a free, virtual program that aims to register 20 African-American/Black women with the patent bar within one year.
  • Associate Board Member for Legal Prep Charter Academy – a charter high school having legal themed curriculum in Chicago’s West Garfield Park neighborhood.
  • Member of Marshall Gerstein’s Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee
  • Co-chair of Marshall Gerstein’s Sponsorship Committee
  • Member of the Mechanical Engineering External Advisory Board for Michigan State University
  • Co-Chair of the AIA Trails Committee for the Intellectual Property Law Association of Chicago

In February Matt received the Champions for Diversity Award by Marshall Gerstein Partner and Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Chair Lynn Janulis, Ph.D. and Marshall Gerstein Chief Talent & Diversity Officer Christine Hollis.
