“WIPO Issues a Patent Landscape Report on Generative Artificial Intelligence”
October 1, 2024The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) published its Patent Landscape Report on GenAI, and Marshall Gerstein attorney Bill Samore recently provided an overview of the trends highlighted for IP Litigator.
“There has been a sharp increase in the number of patent families over the past 10 years,” Bill wrote in his article. “Specifically, GenAI has grown from 733 in 2014 to more than 14,000 in 2023. This rise of GenAI has been mainly driven by three factors: (i) more powerful computers, (ii) the availability of large datasets as a source of training data, and (iii) improved AI/machine learning algorithms.”
Bill goes on to describe the key players and patent owners in this space, as well as a look at which countries are leading innovation.
