Biography
Vanessa assists with drafting and prosecuting patent applications within Marshall Gerstein's Electrical & Computer Technologies Group. She is experienced in diverse technologies such as systems engineering and predictive modeling. Vanessa is a native speaker of Mandarin (Chinese).
Outside of her patent prosecution work, Vanessa enjoys trying out new recipes, playing musical instruments, and traveling.

Background and Credentials
Vanessa is currently obtaining her J.D. from the Indiana University Maurer School of Law, with an expected graduation date of May 2024. She co-founded LETS (Life Experience Then School), a student organization that provides tailored event opportunities for law students with professional work experiences, families, and/or children. Vanessa is passionate about bringing innovation into legal research. She leads the law school’s Legal Data Visualization Lab as the Student Lab Director and conducts data-centric legal research for professors from both the law school and the business school. She has recently been elected as the Executive Managing Editor of the IP Theory Law Journal.
As a Legal & Patents PEPS Intern for Cook Medical, Vanessa gained valuable experience in patent prosecution from an in-house perspective and actively participated in Cook Medical’s effort to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion. Vanessa also assists pro bono clients with patent and IP needs as an associate of the USPTO certified Intellectual Property Law Clinic under the supervision of the clinic’s director.
Before law school, Vanessa has five years of professional experience working on systems and data science in both corporate and non-profit environments.
