Elliott, Rueth, and Gerstein to Co-Present at ACC Research Triangle Area 2019 IPPulooza
Marshall, Gerstein & Borun LLP is pleased to co-sponsor the Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC) Research Triangle Area Chapter’s IPPulooza in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina on Friday, February 22, 2019. Partners Joshua Elliott, Randall Rueth, and Robert Gerstein will co-present on patent and licensing strategies.
Mr. Elliott and Mr. Rueth will discuss freedom to operate, filing, and prosecution strategies, and, most importantly, how to align intellectual property strategy with corporate goals, including interactions on such matters between outside and inside counsel. Mr. Gerstein will describe best practices in patent, trademark, copyright, and trade secret licensing, discussing mistakes to avoid, and strategies for successful transactions.

The ACC's Research Triangle Area Chapter provides a wide range of educational programs on topics relevant to in-house legal practice, such as crisis management, outside counsel management, contracts, and intellectual property. The Research Triangle Area Chapter has more than 200 members in the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill and surrounding areas in North Carolina.
Joshua Elliott, partner, focuses on patent law matters related to biochemistry and biotechnology, including advising and counseling clients on issues such as freedom-to-operate, infringement, validity, and design around strategies. His practice includes rendering opinions, conducting patent due diligence investigations, advising clients on patent portfolio strategies, strategically managing global patent portfolios, and preparing and prosecuting patent applications. Mr. Elliott also has experience advising clients on due diligence issues related to potential investments, venture funding, and initial public offerings.
Randall Rueth, partner and chair of Marshall Gerstein’s Electrical & Computer Technologies practice group, advises a wide range of clients, from Fortune 500 companies to startups, innovating in electronics, software products and processes, e-commerce, and the insurance and financial services industries. Mr. Rueth advances and protects the value of his clients' technologies through experienced prosecution work, insightful analysis and opinions, as well as strategic counseling. Mr. Rueth’s background also includes domestic and international patent portfolio management, patent validity and infringement analyses, due diligence analyses of patent portfolios, reexamination and opposition practice, and pre-litigation management of patent disputes.
Robert Gerstein, partner, prepares, negotiates, and resolves disputes relating to patent, trademark, development, and other intellectual property agreements, counsels on all aspects of intellectual property, and provides legal opinions. Mr. Gerstein strives to get a deep understanding of each client’s business and technology, and integrate all aspects of IP with the organization’s business goals. Mr. Gerstein is also involved in patent, trademark, copyright, unfair competition and contract arbitrations, mediations, and litigation.
