September 24, 2021

via Zoom

Marshall Gerstein Partner Ryan Phelan will speak Friday at a hybrid seminar hosted by patent attorney associations from the European Union and Switzerland. One of six speakers invited for the event, Phelan will cover patenting artificial intelligence (AI) inventions in the U.S. amid a broader discussion contrasting how the U.S., Europe and China handle patents for biotechnology and computer-implemented inventions. This seminar will be held in person in Baden, Switzerland, with speakers and attendees also participating via Zoom.

Date and Time: Friday, September 24 — Phelan speaks from 8:45 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. CDT
Event Name: “Limitations of Patentability,” hosted by the Association of Freelance European and Swiss Patent Attorneys (VESPA) and the Association of Industrial Patent Attorneys in Switzerland (VIPS/ACBIS)

With U.S. patent filings for AI inventions doubling in recent years, intellectual property lawyers need to understand how U.S. patent law treats AI compared with other jurisdictions. Phelan will speak about claim-drafting strategy, key guidance from U.S. patent officials and U.S. case law on AI-related inventions.

Phelan will speak alongside patent and technology experts from China, Germany, Luxembourg and Switzerland. His seminar will be one of three conducted in English. More information can be found at https://acbis.ch/.
