Webinar: Patenting Software Related to Medical Devices

December 15, 2021

Marshall Gerstein partner Ryan Phelan will join a panel to discuss the patenting of software related to medical devices in a live webinar for the New Jersey Intellectual Property Law Association (NJIPLA).

Scheduled for Wednesday, December 15 at 1:00 p.m., the webinar will address issues and strategies for preparing and prosecuting patent applications related to software used in or as medical devices. The panel will discuss eligibility, sufficiency of the written description, and other issues.

Ryan will be joined by Jonathan Kwok, senior counsel at Hewlett Packard Enterprise, and Chris George, shareholder at Hanley, Flight & Zimmerman LLC.

To the conversation, Ryan brings diverse experience across all phases of developing and protecting innovations through patent prosecution and litigation. A registered patent attorney, he routinely advises clients on preparing and prosecuting patent applications, preparing legal opinions as to the patentability of innovative products or services, and litigating IP-related issues to protect clients from lawsuits brought by competitors or non-practicing patent entities. As a former technology consultant with Accenture and with a background in computer science and engineering, Ryan has extensive experience in computer systems, hardware and software design, engineering, development, and related technologies. He represents numerous startup and Fortune 500 clients with patent matters in technical areas and industries.

The webinar is free for NJIPLA members. Non-members also are welcome and may register for an additional fee. Please visit NJIPLA to learn more and register.
