Marshall, Gerstein & Borun Congratulates its 2012 Illinois Super Lawyers and Rising Stars

CHICAGO, IL. (January 31, 2012) – Marshall, Gerstein & Borun LLP is pleased to announce that three of its partners have been selected as 2012 Illinois Super Lawyers by Law & Politics Media, Inc. Additionally, five Marshall, Gerstein & Borun partners were selected for inclusion on the 2012 Illinois Rising Stars list by Law & Politics.

Each year Law & Politics compiles surveys from attorneys across Illinois asking them to vote for the best lawyers they have personally observed in action. The selection process includes peer nominations, review by a blue ribbon panel, research and then a final selection process.

Thomas L. Duston Mr. Duston, an experienced trial litigator, has litigated patent infringement claims representing clients in a diverse array of technologies within the medical, pharmaceutical, semiconductor, computer, internet, explosives, automotive and metals industries, among others. His work encompasses not only patent infringement litigation, but also trade secret disputes, the enforcement of non-competition agreements, trademark actions, claims of unfair competition, and contract and negligence claims relating to technology failures. He has tried intellectual property disputes before both judges and juries, as well as handled injunction proceedings, arbitrations, mediations and appeals in such cases.

Robert M. Gerstein For clients in a wide range of industries, Mr. Gerstein counsels on all aspects of intellectual property, negotiates patent and trademark agreements and provides legal opinions. With over 20 years of experience, he treats each client individually, delving into their business and culture to provide advice that is not only the most legally advantageous for the client, but is also practical and economical. Mr. Gerstein is a member of the Firm’s Executive Committee and has earned acclaim as one of the World’s Leading Intellectual Property Strategists by Intellectual Asset Management Magazine.

James P. Zeller Mr. Zeller enjoys an international practice managing large IP portfolios, focused on securing and protecting through domestic and foreign prosecution, including appeals and inter partes proceedings. His practice encompasses diverse technologies, such as consumer and office products, semiconductor device manufacture, dental/medical devices, telecommunications, automotive technologies, and chemical processing. Mr. Zeller is recognized as an Illinois Leading Lawyer, has been named an Illinois Super Lawyer, and holds an AV® peer review rating from Martindale-Hubbell.

Michael P. Julianne M. Hartzell Working with inventors and corporations in the fields of consumer products, medical devices, pharmaceuticals and internet technology, Ms. Hartzell successfully handles all forms of intellectual property litigation, including patent, trademark, copyright and trade secret litigation. She also has experience enforcing covenants not-to-compete and confidentiality agreements.

Benjamin T. Horton Mr. Horton protects as well as enforces the intellectual property rights of his clients in all phases of complex litigation. He is trained in electrical engineering and for years worked with automotive companies and semiconductor manufacturers.

Mark H. Izraelewicz Mr. Izraelewicz is an aggressive litigator who protects the interests of clients in the chemical and biotech industries. From defending against infringement claims to prosecuting their claims through trial, he’s proved an insightful and thorough attorney.

John R. Labbé Mr. Labbé is a trial lawyer with a practice focused on patent litigation. His trial experience includes jury and bench trials in state and federal courts. His patent cases encompass a broad range of technologies, and he has a particular experience in patent ownership disputes.
