Marshall, Gerstein & Borun and 11 of its partners have been recognized in the IAM Patent 1000: The World’s Leading Patent Professionals 2016. This year’s honorees include:

With multiple individuals recommended in each area of patent practice, Marshall Gerstein “can rightfully lay claim to one of the best-rounded capabilities in the state of Illinois,” according to the IAM Patent 1000. It further states that clients appreciate the Firm’s highly competitive rates, enthusing that “it offers far and away the best value,” and that “the quality of its product is second to none.”

The guide describes Marshall Gerstein as having “a robust litigation team that does not, perhaps, get as much credit as it deserves.” However, “it showed the great things it can achieve when it beat patent infringement claims in a high-profile matter involving cutting-edge DNA sequencing technology.” The guide notes that IP Litigation partners Kevin Flowers, Ph.D. and Mark Izraelewicz “knocked it out of the park on this one.” Litigation partner Kevin Hogg is “operating at a similarly high level in the high-technology area.” Partner and IP Litigation chair Benjamin Horton was described as “a rising star in the market.”

The Firm’s Patent Prosecution group is described as adept at “crafting nuanced post-grant arguments that will play well with PTAB judges.” The guide further notes that “a unique level of life sciences expertise is a major selling point for the team.” Partner Dr. Li-Hsien (Lily) Rin-Laures, M.D., is singled out for having “one of the most impressive résumés you’ll come across.” Partner Katherine Neville, Ph.D. is another “academic and private practice high achiever.” The guide declares that Michael Muczynski can “architect winning portfolios from the ground up; his recent activities…in this regard have certainly turned heads.” Managing partner Jeffrey Sharp is noted for his longtime experience, having “been in the biotechnology and chemistry patent protection game for over three decades.” Guide editors advise that “high-technology concerns would do well” to contact partner Michael Furmanek.

IAM Patent 1000 also heaps praise on Marshall Gerstein’s “superlative” IP Transactions practice, which it describes as “among the best in the Midwest,” noting that “nobody works harder than partner and IP Transactions chair Pamela Cox, who can quickly get her head around even the most labyrinthine deals.” Partner Robert Gerstein is a frequent collaborator with Cox; together, “the pair run a thriving university licensing and tech transactions practice.”

The IAM Patent 1000 is exclusively dedicated to identifying the world’s leading patent services providers. The extensive research process for this year’s guide was conducted over several months by a team of full-time analysts, and involved more than 1,500 interviews with patent specialists across the globe.
